Family Fun Day at Hampshire Hills

On June 7th I will be performing at the Family Fun Day at Hampshire hills in Milford, NH to benefit the Jaiden Lyndi Tlapa Foundation. Jaiden was a dear little girl who lost her life in a tragic accident, and her family is channeling their love for her and their grief into this Foundation to assist families that have critically injured and terminally ill children. The foundation is also creating a website to bring together resources with needs, and hopes to focus on helping families to create special memories of their loved ones (hand-prints, DVD's with special photos and music, etc).

Another objective is to create a Jaiden Lyndi Tlapa Scholarship which will be awarded to a graduating senior who exemplifies certain character traits (compassion, kindness, outreach) and has made a positive impact in this world. Among other items, the application will look for volunteer hours, references, and most importantly an essay on how this person is planning to make a difference in this world.

The foundation will also support the NE Aquarium program at the Wadleigh Memorial Library, which was originally donated by Jaiden's Grandparents in her name.

I hope you will plan to spend part of your day at this fun event which will assist a very worthy cause. I'll be kicking things off at 11am...hope to see you there!

The House on Christmas Street at Santa's Village

I'm very excited to announce that this summer my CD The House on Christmas Street will be available to purchase in the gift shops of Santa's Village, Santa's Summer Home in Jefferson, New Hampshire. Several of the songs on the CD have been playing on the village-wide sound system for several years now, and if you've visited there you've probably heard "Pickles" at least once! So this is a perfect match, and I'm just delighted!
A trip to Santa's Village is a summertime tradition for many New Hampshire families, and well worth the trip to the beautiful White Mountains from anywhere in New England or beyond. Plan a trip there with your family this summer, and now you'll have a part of that trip and a part of me to enjoy on the ride home!

I'm Back! (plus a travel tip for families)

I just returned from a terrific weekend in Los Angeles with my girls. We attended the Grammy Awards, but that was just part of the fun. When I take trips with them I always do a little online research to find the strange, bizarre or just interesting little things that will make the trip more memorable. This time I found online, and took them to, the high school where the exterior shots of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" TV show was filmed, in Torrance, California. This is a show my girls have only begun watching on DVD in recent years, but everyone in our family enjoys it. They loved visiting "Sunnydale High", and so did I! We took lots of pictures outside the school in the places where "Buffy" and her friends congregated to discuss the latest disaster in "Sunnydale." I'm sure the good citizens of Torrance who drove by probably thought we were pretty strange!
The best part, was that, even with all this fun, visiting "Sunnydale High" didn't cost us an extra cent!
So, that's my travel tip for today....when you are planning a trip, even just a day trip, look for those special little extra locations that make the trip more fun. You can always email me here, too....I know about a lot of such crazy spots, such as the giant Jimmy Carter peanut in Plains, GA., or the witch's foot on Colonel Buck's gravestone in Bucksport, Maine.
